DHAKA, July 29 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary
Affairs Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed today underscored the
need for strengthening the civil- military relations for
expediting anti-terrorism endeavours.
The government has given top priority to combating terrorism
and was able to arrest a good number of local and international
terrorists, he said while inaugurating a three-day workshop at a
city hotel, said an official release.
Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) and Defence
Institutions Reforms Initiative (DIRI) co-organized the workshop
on `Combating Terrorism in Bangladesh: Developing a Counter-
Terrorism Strategy'.
BEI president Farooq Sobhan chaired the inaugural session
while US Ambassador to Bangladesh James F Moriarty and DIRI
programme coordinator John Hensen also spoke.
Barrister Shafique said regional cooperation must be
strengthened for implementing the decision of curbing terrorism
as taken in the SAARC Summit in Bhutan.
He favoured training for skill development of law enforcing
and intelligent agencies for checking terrorism effectively.
The law minister sought cooperation from all to help the
government formulate an anti-terrorism national strategy.
