Expatriate are assets, source of pride: Inu

DHAKA, Jan 11, 2017 (BSS)- Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu today described the expatriate Bangladeshis as assets and said they (expatriates) act as sources of pride for the country and its people.

He was talking to visiting mayor of the London Borough of Brent, Councillor Parvez Ahmed who called on him at his office.

Information secretary Mortuza Ahmed, Centre for NRB, a research organization, chairman MS Shekil Chowdhury were present.

Parvez Ahmed discussed with the minister about the problems facing the expatriate Bangladeshis in the United Kingdom.

The information minister laid emphasis on ensuring security of expatriates family members and their assets. Inu said the government is pledge-bound to encourage investment of expatiates in Bangladesh.

Welcoming Parvez, who became the first Brent mayor of Bangladeshi origin, in Bangladesh, the information minister said this visit would help strengthen the ties between Bangladesh and the UK.

Brent is located in the Wembley area of London where a large number of Asian communities reside.

Parvez underlined the need for improving services of Bangladesh High Commission in London and said image of the country could not be reflected globally without efficient press officers in Bangladesh missions abroad.

Information secretary Mortuza Ahmed said information ministry is closely working with the foreign ministry regarding appointment of press officers in Bangladesh missions abroad.
