Swedish envoy praises govt with ensuring security of diplomats

DHAKA, July 17, 2017 (BSS) - Swedish Ambassador in Dhaka Johan Frisell yesterday lauded the government's commendable effort to contain the situation after the last year's Gulshan cafe attack and ensure safety of diplomats and foreign nationals in Bangladesh.

The appreciation came when he paid a farewell call on Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali at the latter's office this morning, a foreign ministry statement said.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues of bilateral interest when the envoy praised Ali for his commendable effort to create an active and dynamic relation between Bangladesh and Sweden.

Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Sweden visit in June this year, Frisell said that relations between the two countries reached to a new height following the visit.

In this connection, Ali said the Bangladesh premier always attaches great importance to relations with Sweden and other Nordic countries and keen to further strengthen the relations.

Swedish Ambassador lauded Sheikh Hasina's decision to join 'The Global Deal Initiative', a social dialogue to ensure safe and decent work environment for the workers when he lauded the government for successful holding of 9th GFMD Summit in Dhaka.

He also expressed gratitude for Bangladesh's support to the Swedish candidature for non permanent member of the UN Security Council.
