EC collects information about 24, 37,331 prospective voters

DHAKA, Aug 12, 2017 (BSS)-The Election Commission (EC) has collected information about 24,37,331 prospective voters for updating the voters' list in the run to the next general election.

"For updating the list, the commission had a target of collecting information about 35 lakh prospective voters and 70 percent of the target has been fulfilled," Acting EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed told journalists at the EC Secretariat on thursday.

"The names of 13,33,020 deceased voters have been removed from the list and around 60876 voters applied for changing in their electoral areas, he added.

The data entry in 517 upazilas would start from August 20 in three phases. A draft updated voter list would be published on January 2 next year and it will be finalised on January 31.
