675 stalls to be set up at Ekushey book fair

DHAKA, Jan 4, 2018 (BSS) - As many as 675 stalls of 400 organizations are expected to be set up at the Amar Ekushey Granthamela- 2018, an official of Bangla Academy told BSS.

"A total of 400 organizations have submitted their applications seeking permission to install 675 stalls at the upcoming book fair on the Bangla Academy premises. Last year, the number of stalls was 559," Bangla Academy Director Dr Jalal Ahmed told the news agency.

The names of selected stalls will be published on January 8, he said adding the fares of the stalls would be increased in three categories this year.

The size of Amar Ekushey Granthamela is getting larger as 83 new organizations are seeking permission to set up stalls at the fair.

The authorities are taking necessary preparations, including security measures, to hold the book fair successfully, Bangla Academy sources said.

Generally, booklovers, authors, publishers and the people of different professions wait for the book fair.

Alongside displaying of books of different disciplines of knowledge and literatures, the book fair includes various events to increase attraction for the fair.

Thousands of visitors of all ages were seen at the Amar Ekushey Granthamela last year that was held on the premises of Bangla Academy and the Suhrawardy Udyan in the city.
