KUSHTIA, Jan 06, 2018 (BSS) - As part of a two-day Kushtia tour, President M Abdul Hamid this afternoon visited Shilaidaha Kuthibari, the country house of Nobel Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore, in Kumarkhali upazila here.
President Hamid visited different archeological sites and stayed some time there, which is one of the recreational sites in the itinerary of Tagore enthusiasts, some 20 kilometres away from Kushtia town.
The President planted the sapling of a Spanish Cherry (Bakul flower) at the pond-side of the eye-catching Kuthibari Complex. He also enjoyed a cultural function organized by Bakul Tola Sangskritik Gosthi with the blind singers.
President's wife Rashida Khanam, son Rejwan Ahmed Toufiq, MP, and daughter Swarna Hamid, Awami League Joint-Secretary General Mahabub-Ul-Alam Hanif, MP, Abdur Rouf, MP, Additional DIG of Khulna Division Ekramul Habib, Kushtia Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Jahir Raihan, Police Super SM Mehedi local leaders, secretaries concerned to the Bangabhaban accompanied him here.
Earlier, President Abdul Hamid arrived Kushtia at about 1:40 pm.
The President visited the shrine of Lalon Fakir at Chheuria in the evening and later exchanged views with the local representatives there.
Abdul Hamid is set to address the fourth Convocation of Islamic University, Bangladesh (IUB), the first higher educational institution in the south-western part of the country, at 12:30 pm tomorrow.
