662 stalls to be set up at Ekushey book fair

DHAKA, Jan 8, 2018 (BSS) - As many as 662 stalls are expected to be set up at the Amar Ekushey Granthamela- 2018, an official of Bangla Academy told BSS.

"A total of 662 stalls will be set up at the upcoming book fair on the Bangla Academy premises. Last year, the number of stalls was 559," Bangla Academy Director Dr Jalal Ahmed told the news agency earlier.

Twenty four new stalls and 12 more pavilions to be set up in this year's book fair, he also said, adding that 11 old publication organisations while 12 new organisations have got pavilions and 18 organisations have got four units stalls and 32 organisations have got three units stalls in the book fair.

Of the old publication house, Agami Prokashoni, Utshya,Anupam, Anneshya,Abosor, Anannya, Kakoli, Pathok Samabesh, Panjeri and Onnya Prokosh have got pavilions while new publication houses such as Ananda Publishers, Nalanda, Shova,Tamrolipi,Ityadi,Utshya Prokashon, Prothoma, Kotha Prokashon, Bangla Prokashon, and Journeyman Books have got pavilions in the book fair.

The size of Amar Ekushey Granthamela is getting larger as 83 new organizations are seeking permission to set up stalls at the fair.

The authorities are taking necessary preparations, including security measures, to hold the book fair successfully, Bangla Academy sources said.

Generally, booklovers, authors, publishers and the people of different professions wait for the book fair.

Alongside displaying of books of different disciplines of knowledge and literatures, the book fair includes various events to increase attraction for the fair.

Thousands of visitors of all ages were seen at the Amar Ekushey Granthamela last year that was held on the premises of Bangla Academy and the Suhrawardy Udyan in the city.
