Govt to distribute 28.10 lakh blankets among poor: Maya

DHAKA, Jan 9, 2018 (BSS) - Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya today said the government has allocated 28.10 lakh blankets and 80,000 packets of dry food for cold-stricken people across the country.

"A total of 28.10 lakh blankets will be distributed among cold-stricken people across the country," he said, adding the Relief and Disaster Management Ministry has allocated 10.12 lakh blankets as well as 80,000 packets of dry food and Prime Minister's Office will provide 18 lakh blankets for distressed people.

Maya said this while briefing newsmen at his ministry of Secretariat in the city, said a press release.

"A total of 20 senior officers have been sent to different districts to monitor the distribution work and inform the ministry about the necessity of more blankets,' he said.

The ministry also opened several control rooms at different districts and Dhaka to distribute warm clothes among poor people properly.

The minister said there are enough stock of blankets and foods and no person will suffer from cold weather.

Maya also urged wealthy people to come forward to extend assistance to the poor people.

Secretary of the ministry M Shah Kamal was present.
