BD mission in New Delhi observes Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day

DHAKA, Jan 11, 2018 (BSS) - Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi yesterday observed Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day paying rich tribute to the greatest Bangalee of all time.

The homecoming of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from a Pakistani jail on January 10, 1972 was the culmination of Bangladesh's victory in the nine-month War of Liberation against Pakistani occupation forces.

High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali presided over a discussion marking the day, one of the red-letter days in the history of Bangladesh's War of Liberation, according to a message received here.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by Deputy High Commissioner ATM Rokebul Haque, Defence Adviser Brigadier General Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, Minister (Press) Farid Hossain and Minister (Consular) Mosharaf Hossain.

Messages from President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were read out respectively by Counsellor (Commerce) Dr Nahid Rashid and Counsellor AFM Zahid-Ul-Islam.

Syed Muazzem Ali recalled the flurry of diplomatic activity that led to the release of Bangabandhu from the Pakistani prison, where he lived in a solitary cell being sentenced to death over nine and a half months.

The Bangalee nation tasted the real freedom only after the historic return of Bangabandhu nearly a month after our victory on December 16, he said.

"Bangabandhu was one of the finest leaders the world has ever seen," he added.

A special munazat was also offered seeking salvation of the departed soul of Bangabandhu as well as the Liberation War martyrs and continued peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.
