DHAKA, Jan 11, 2018 (BSS)- President M Abdul Hamid today urged writers, researchers, intellectuals and journalists to conduct more research works on Liberation War and freedom struggle to let the new generation know the real history of our Liberation War.
"It's our scared responsibility to let the present and future generations know about the actual history of the country", the President said while unveiling the cover of a book named "1971: Resistance, Resilience and Redemption" written by his military secretary Major General Md Sarwar Hossain at Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban here this evening.
President Abdul Hamid laid stress on making future generation knowledgeable about the history of freedom struggle of Bangladesh properly to imbue generation after generation with knowledge and the Liberation War's spirit for the benefits of the country.
Terming the freedom struggle as an inspiration for Bengalees, the President said a vested quarter tried to distort the history of our 1971 Liberation War in many ways and its ill attempt ultimately turned into a failure.
"The quarter which distorts the history will be thrown to the dustbin of the history in the long run", he added. Referring to struggle of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the President said Bangabandhu wanted economic emancipation of the Bangalees alongside the political freedom.
Now the country, the President said, is progressing towards development under the relentless efforts of Bangabandhu's eldest daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"The country in the meantime has been considered as a 'role model' of development as it has tremendously ensured development in various sectors, including education, health, agriculture and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
President Abdul Hamid thanked the author for writing the book which would be a part of the history as it depicted the different aspects of the 1971 Liberation War, including background, geographical attributes of East Pakistan and initial military deposition, initial resistance, the evolution of Bangladesh forces, organization of Bangladesh operational forces, irregular forces of Bangladesh Liberation War, role and effectiveness of Bangladesh forces in achieving the final victory, and Pakistan plan and allied offensive.
Prime Minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr. Gowher Rizvi presided over the function. Former Director General (DG) of Bangla Academy Prof Syed Anwar Hussain, Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam of Dhaka University and DG of Bangla Academy Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan, also spoke on the occasion.
