Mass media should reflect people's aspiration: Inu

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2018 (BSS) - Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu yesterday said people's hopes and aspirations should be reflected in both print and electronic media.

"As mass media is called the mirror of society, both print and electronic media should practice objective journalism to let the people know real information," he told a seminar titled "News Sense and Perception of Readers" at the conference room of Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) here.

The Management and Resource Development Initiative (MRDI) and the PIB jointly organized the seminar.

Chairman of National Human Rights Commission Kazi Reazul Huq and former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, among others, addressed the function with PIB Director General Md Shah Alamgir in the chair. News Director of Ekattar, a private television, Syed Istiaq Reza moderated the seminar.

Inu said print and electronic media are doing their duties without interference as the present government believes in press freedom.

He urged the mass media to do their duties with utmost responsibilities for disseminating accurate information to the people.

Participants at the seminar expressed their skepticism about the results of the survey conducted by MRDI and UNICEF regarding news and perception of the people.

They said the survey could not portray the real picture of the mass media. Both print and electronic media are performing their duties with sincerity, they observed.
