DHAKA, July 29 (BSS)- `Alhaj Yakub Ali Khan Trust Fund' has
been set up at the Department of Mathematics of Dhaka University.

Two daughters of late Yakub Ali Khan -- Farida Karim and
Mamtaz Khan -- handed over a cheque for Taka 6 lakh to Dhaka
University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique to
set up the fund on Tuesday.

Late Alhaj Yakub Ali Khan's grandson and Jagannath
University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, his
daughter-in-law Dr Md Fazlul Karim, Chairman of the Department of
Mathematics Prof. Tazibar Rahman and Prof. Nurul Islam, Prof M
Muklesur Rahman, Prof. Mobarak Hossain, Prof Sajeda Banu and
Prof. Amulya Chandra Mandal of the same Department were present
on the occasion.

0ut of the income of this donation, every year three poor and
meritorious students of 2nd, 3rd and 4th year BSS (Hons) classes
of the Department of Mathematics of the DU will be awarded
scholarship.

Prof. Arefin Siddique thanked the donors and their family
members for the donations they made for the welfare of the DU
students.

Yakub Ali was born on August 1, 1914 at Faridpur in a
respectable Muslim family. He greatly valued education. He died
on January 1, 2007 at New Jersey,USA.
