DU VC says objective journalism declines in country

DHAKA, Aug, 6 2017 (BSS) - Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique today said the objective journalism has declined in the country though facilities increased in this sector.

"The main purpose of journalism is to publish authentic information rather than publishing fabricated news that confuses the people," he said, speaking as chief guest at the 'Editor Bazlur Rahman Memorial Lecture' at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium on the campus.

Marking the 76th birth anniversary of noted journalist Bazlur Rahman, DU Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department and Editor Bazlur Rahman Foundation jointly organised the lecture.

The DU vice-chancellor said, "The principal of journalism suggests that if any fake or false information is circulated, a correction should be published on the next day... But nowadays the media do not follow this rule."

He urged the journalists to be more objective during performing their duties.

DU MCJ Department Chairperson Professor Mofizur Rahman presided over the function that was addressed by former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor and Editor Bazlur Rahman Foundation Chairman Khondoker Ibrahim Khaled and Dainik Sangbad Managing Editor Kashem Humayun as special guests.

MCJ Department Professor Sheikh Abdus Salam presented the commemorative lecture titled "Shadow of Capitalism and Technology in Media: Partnership, Professionalism and Institution".
