DHAKA, April 10, 2018 (BSS) - Teachers under the banner of Dhaka University Teacher's Association (DUTA) today demanded quick trial of the perpetrators involved in the vandalism of DU vice-chancellor's residence in the early hours of Monday.
"We, the teachers of Dhaka University, are urging the government to take immediate steps to bring the perpetrators to the book and reform the existing quota system logically, said DUTA president Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal.
He was addressing a human chain held in front of Aparajeyo Bangla of the campus protesting the vandalism at vice-chancellor's residence.
DUTA also thanked the Prime Minister as Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said the government would examine the existing quota system by May 7.
Condemning the attack, DU teachers demanded proper investigation into the matter. They also claimed people who carried out the attack on the residence of the VC were outsiders.
The students got angry paying heed into a rumour that one of their fellows had been shot dead, said criminology department chairperson Professor Ziaur Rahman, adding the perpetrators who spread out the rumour should be identified.
DUTA general secretary Professor Shibli Rubaiat-Ul Islam, Professor Poet Dr Muhammad Samad, Professor Sadeka Halim, among others, addressed the event.
