DHAKA, May 6, 2018 (BSS) - Secretary General of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Ambassador Dato'ku Jaafar Ku Shaari met Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman on the campus today.
Shaari was accompanied by D-8 official Sheikh Mohammad Moinuddin, a DU press release said.
During the meeting at DU VC's office, they discussed the matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes between the DU and the universities of D-8 member countries to enhance economic cooperation and development.
Shaari apprised the DU VC of various projects being implemented by D-8 Organization on different areas of economic sectors, including agriculture, trade, industry, tourism and education.
"We want to involve intellectuals, researchers, faculty members and students with our works and projects," he said.
The Secretary General sought help and cooperation from the DU VC to produce skilled young leaders who will contribute to global economy specially D-8 member countries.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman assured the D-8 Secretary General of providing all possible help and cooperation to materialise the objectives of D-8 Organization on academic and research sectors.
He gave a proposal to D-8 Secretary General to form 'D-8 University Forum' comprising of one leading university of each member countries of the organisation.
The visiting D-8 Secretary General accepted this proposal and expressed his willingness to work with Dhaka University in this regard.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman thanked the guest for his visit to DU and keen interest in its academic and research activities.
