HANOI, Aug. 7, 2017 (BSS/Xinhua) - Flash floods in Vietnam's five northern mountainous provinces have killed 26 people, leaving 15 missing and 27 injured as of Monday morning, the country's Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control told Xinhua.
The floods also swept away 231 houses and damaged 145 irrigation works, many national road sections and hundreds of hectares of crops, causing property losses of over 940 billion Vietnamese dong (41.6 million U.S. dollars).
Regarding the 26 deaths, 12 were from Son La province, six from Yen Bai, five from Dien Bien, two from Lai Chau, and one from Yen Bai.
Among the 15 people listed as missing, nine are from Yen Bai, five from Son La and one from Lai Chau.
Natural disasters, mainly storms and floods, killed 75 people and injured 77 others in the first seven months of this year in Vietnam, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
