RANGPUR, Jan 6, 2017 (BSS) - The district and city units of Awami League (AL) here celebrated the 'Victory Day for Democracy' on Thursday with a fresh vow to save democracy.

The district and city units of AL jointly organised a discussion here to celebrate the third anniversary of the general elections held on January 5 in 2014 as the Victory Day for Democracy.

With President of city AL Shafiur Rahman Shafi in the chair, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed addressed the discussion as the chief guest.

The speakers lauded the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who protected democracy in the country through holding the 10th Parliamentary Elections on January 5 in 2014.

They strongly blasted BNP for taking stand against democracy through conducting fire terrorism, violence, vandalism, anarchy and killings of innocent people in a bid to thwart the general elections on January 5 in 2014.

The chief guest said that the people of the country would give a befitting reply to BNP-Jamaat alliance in the next general elections for their anti-people politics of destruction, fire-terrorism, militancy and terrorism.

"The BNP-Jamaat clique has still been hatching conspiracies against the country and its people," he said and called upon the pro-liberation forces to resist all evil designs of the anti-liberation forces unitedly to further accelerate the pace of national development.
