MANIKGANJ, Jan, 06, 2017 (BSS) - The mustard cultivators of Manikganj district are expecting a bumper production in the current season as the favourable weather was prevailing in the district.
Good yield of the winter crop and its fair price during the last several years, farmers of all seven upazilas of the district are spreading the areas of mustard cultivation.
Easy cultivation and harvesting process and lower production cost is also a reason behind the popularity of mustard cultivation in the district, the sources said.
Alauddin, one of the mustard cultivators of village Nabagram under Manikganj Sadar upazila said, after harvesting the Aman, they started cultivation of mustard in their lands and after harvesting the mustard they would cultivate main crop Boro in the same land.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said here a total of 43,149 hectares of land was brought under mustard cultivation in all seven upazilas of the district during the current season with the production target of 49,661 tonnes of mustard.
