Bumper potato production likely in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH Jan 07, 2017(BSS)-Cultivators and local agro-officials are expecting a bumper potato production across the district this season.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said 6,000 hectares of land have been brought under potato cultivation in the district with a production target of 1,20,0000 tonnes during the current season.

DAE Official Md Abdulla-Al-Mamun told BSS that the farmers have already completed sowing of potato seeds and tender plants of the crop are now growing well amid a favourable climatic condition.

Agriculture related organizations are providing necessary suggestions to the farmers on the cultivation of potato during foggy weather.

The DAE and other agri-related departments and organizations have provided quality potato seeds and other inputs to the growers to make potato cultivation programme successful.

District DAE officials said potato cultivation is increasing every year as a result of financial benefits of the crop.
