Bangladesh hits remarkable success in economic, social sectors: Speakers

RAJSHAHI, Jan 09, 2017 (BSS)- By dint of pragmatic and dynamic steps taken by the present government, Bangladesh has attained remarkable success in economic and social sectors during the last seven years, said speakers at a post-rally discussion here today.

They said the successes are visible in all the major and vital areas- ICT, agriculture, education, reduction of infant and maternal mortality, poverty reduction, safety net and women empowerment. The nation is getting international awards one after another as recognition of the achievements.

They were addressing the inaugural session of a three-day 'Development Fair- 2017' for the third consecutive time in the city in festive mood to focus the present government's successes relating to the economic and social development.

The fair organized by District Administration being held in the Rajshahi College playground where more than 45 government and associate development organizations are showcasing their respective development achievements through separate stalls.

Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the ceremony as chief guest while Ayen uddin, MP, and Akhter Jahan, MP, spoke as special guests with Kazi Ashraf Uddin, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi, in the chair.

Among others, Superintended of Police Muazzem Hossain Bhuiyan and social worker Shaheen Akhter Rainy also spoke. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ataul Gani welcomed the participants.

Lawmaker Badsha says digitization of government services and expansion of Bangladesh's IT economy was a core principle of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's elections in 2009. As part of her 2014 election pledges, the prime minister launched "Digital Bangladesh, Vision 2021," a plan to fully digitize Bangladesh by 2021.

In the past, the rural poor in Bangladesh had been forced to take long travel to receive the simplest of government services and information, losing wages in the process.

To remedy this, the government created the Access to Information online programme, which brings government services to its citizens. They can access government sites, see public exam results, read online textbooks and take advantage of a range of services staying at home.

Before the inaugural session, a rally was brought out from Green Plaza of Rajshahi City Corporation and that ended at the fair venue after parading through city thoroughfares. Large number of government and non-government officials, Freedom Fighters, teachers and volunteers joined the rally.

Side by side with the fair, a number of seminars will be held highlighting the achievements in MDGs and other development fields.

In addition to three reality shows, nine selected educational institutions will present documentary films on improvements. The fair will present cultural functions based on the Great War of Liberation and present government's successes.

Apart from projection of achievements, the fair has also provision of giving overall idea on SDC and its possible outcomes.
