43 houses built for freedom fighters in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR, Jan 12, 2017 (BSS) -During the Liberation War of 1971, M Mannan Darani, 64, joined the war for freeing the country but he never thought of any personal gain. His aim was to free his beloved motherland from the clutches of Pakistani occupation soldiers only.

He never thought of gaining something for himself but only the independence of his much-loved country, said the valiant freedom fighter to this correspondent.

However, Mannan, resident of Pantadubi village under Tona union in Sadar upazila, recently received a satisfying gift from the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina - a complete single storied building named 'Bir Nibas', much to the happiness to him.

During the war, the Pakistani forces with the help of local Rajkars torched my house and I never expect to live such kind of residence, Mannan said.

But after 45 years' sufferings and sacrifice for the spirit of the Liberation War, the pleasant surprise offered by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina developed Mannan's living standard.

The red and green brick house, with concrete roof on top appeared as a blessing for him and his family members. The house contains almost all the facilities in three rooms including a dining space and a kitchen. The toilet containing a bathing space has also been built adjacent to the main building. Besides, an animal shed and a tube well were set of each house.

Executive Engineer of LGED, Pirojpur, M Rafikul Hasan said 39 houses were handed over to the freedom fighters and rest of the houses will be handed over to them very soon.

The government is constructing about 2,971 houses across the country for landless and distress freedom fighters spending Taka about 271 crore, he said.
