RANGPUR, Feb 17, 2017 (BSS) - Noted philosopher and spiritual poet Heyat Mamud immensely contributed to literature and humanism in the sub-continent through his immortal writings.
Literary personalities and researchers expressed the view at a discussion organised by the district administration in observance of the 246th death anniversary of the poet at his native village Jharbishla under Pirganj upazila here tonight.
Elaborate programmes, including 'mazar ziarat', milad mahfil, recitation of hamd, nath and poems, essay competition for students and cultural functions, were arranged on Jharbishla Hayatul Ulum Alim Madrasa premises in observance of the day.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Minu Shill attended the discussion as the chief guest with Acting Deputy Commissioner Sultana Pervin in the chair.
Joint secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs Jahangir Alam addressed the function as the special guest.
Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamal Kumar Ghosh delivered the welcome speech on the occasion participated by politicians, government officials, socio-cultural and literary personalities, professionals, elite and journalists.
Former head of Department of Bengali of Begum Rokeya Government College Professor Shah Alam was the main discussant on the occasion. Noted lawyer MA Basher Tipu also participated in the discussion.
Acting president of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, acting
president of Pirganj Upazila AL Azizur Rahman Ranga and its General Secretary and Pirganj Municipality Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim spoke, among others.
The speakers stressed immortalising memories and precious works of Heyat Mamud for the future generations and preserving rich ancestral history and glories of the past for building a better future and educated nation.
