RAB arrests 'main killer' of 'Pir' from Bhurungamari

RANGPUR, March 20, 2017 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today arrested the suspected 'main killer' of a 'Pir' of Bochaganj upazila in Dinajpur district and his adopted daughter.

The alleged killer Shafikul Islam alias Babu, 28, arrested from Joymonirhat Bazar under Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district today.

In a press briefing held here today at the headquarters of Rangpur RAB-13 battalion, its Commanding Officer ATM Atikullah disclosed the information and narrated about the drive conducted by the elite force to nab the 'criminal'.

"The arrested person Shafikul, son of Azim Uddin Shah of village Dowla Shahpara under Bochaganj upazila in Dinajpur district," he said.

Earlier, 'Pir' Farhad Hossain Chowdhury and his adopted daughter Rupali Begum were shot and slaughtered to death at 'Dowla Kadria Mohammadia Darbar Sharif' in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur on March 13.

"Side by side with police, the elite force also started 'shadow investigation' into the double murder case," Atikullah added.

Later, police arrested another 'Pir' Isahaque Ali of Pathordubi village in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram and a 'Khadem' Saidur Rahman of the deceased 'Pir' from Dawla village in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district.

During the interrogation, the two arrested persons admitted their involvements with the double murder and confessed that Shafikul Islam alias Babu along with his other cohorts murdered the 'Pir' and his adopted daughter on March 13.

"On a tip-off, we arrested Shafikul Islam alias Babu from Joymonirhat Bazar in Kurigram this morning," Atikullah said, adding that the next legal process was underway in this connection.
