Police arrest absconding convict in Mithapukur

RANGPUR, May 19, 2017 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur police today arrested an absconding convict from a Bazar near his house in Tepani Paikarpara village under Mithapukur upazila in the district.

"The arrested convict is Abdul Matin alias Milan, 40, of the village and he was sentenced to 17-year rigorous imprisonment on April 17 last year for committing dacoity," said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of DB police Zahidur Rahman Chowdhury.

Earlier, Saiful Islam of village Bhipso Mollapara under Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari filed a dacoity case against Abdul Matin alias Milan with Syedpur Thana on January 1 in 2008.

Later, Syedpur Thana police submitted charge sheet against the accused dacoit to the Nilphamari Judge court on May 17 in 2008 when the trial began.

After examining the witnesses of the case during hearing, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Nilphamari Md Mahbubul Alam sentenced Abdul Matin alias Milan to 17 year jail term in his absentia on April 26 in 2016.

"We produced the arrested convict before a Rangpur court from where he was sent to Rangpur Central Jail this afternoon," the OC added.
