Panchagarh farmers happy over jute yield, fair price

PANCHAGARH, Aug 12, 2017(BSS) - Farmers are happy over bumper jute production and getting fair price of the cash crop this season as the growers have already started harvesting jute with much enthusiasm in the district.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials here said a bumper production of jute has been achieved in the district this year and per mound jute is being sold Tk 2100 to 2200 in the local markets.

Farmers cultivated jute on 10,000 hectares of land in the district this year, they added.

Subash Chandra, a jute farmer of Sadar upazila said he cultivated jute on 5 bighas of land and earned Taka 80,000 by selling it while production cost was Taka 30,000.

Md Abdulla Al-Mamun of DAE told BSS, a bumper production of jute has been achieved here due to favourable weather along with supplying high quality of jute seeds, fertilizer and insecticide to the farmers by DAE.
