10,000 meters fishing nets seized

RAJSHAHI, Oct 12, 2017 (BSS)- A mobile court here seized 10,000 meters of current fishing nets and 15 kilograms of hilsha fish from different areas in the Padma River under Bagha upazila of Rajshahi on Wednesday.

The court, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Shaheen Reja, conducted the raids at different areas of the river and seized the current nets.

Department of Fisheries is conducting the mobile court as part of the nationwide ban on catching brood hilsha fishes. However, none could be arrested in this connection as the fishermen fled away leaving the nets and fishes sensing the presence of mobile court. Upazila Fisheries Officer Amirul Islam said the seized nets were burnt before public while the fishes were sent to a nearby orphanage.

Another mobile court on Monday seized 8,000 meters of current fishing nets and 10 kilograms of hilsha fish from different areas in the Padma River under Godagari upazila.
