Robber killed in Habiganj gunfight

HABIGANJ, Oct 12, 2017 (BSS) - A robber was killed in a gunfight between his cohorts and police at Daragaon Tea Garden under Bahubal upazila of the district early today.

The deceased was identified as Modon Mia, 34, son of late Abdur Rahman, a resident of Shahpur village in the upazila.

Raselur Rahman, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Bahubal-Nabiganj Circle, said on secret information police arrested Modon Mia from Mirpur area of the upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

Later, a team of police along with Modon conducted a drive at Daragaon Tea Garden to arrest his associates around 3:30 am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers in the area, the cohorts of Modon opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

At one stage, Modon caught in the line of fire and received bullet injury. Later, he was rushed to Habiganj District Modern Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Two policemen were also injured during the operation.
