Naogaon DSA clinch Women's Handball title

DHAKA, Aug. 10, 2017 (BSS)- Naogaon District Sports Association (DSA) clinched title of the 4th Walton National Youth Women's Handball beating Jamalpur DSA by 27-17 goals in the final held on Thursday at Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium in the city.

The winners lead the first half by 13-08 goals.

Renowned sports organiser and Youth and Sports Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Harunur Rashid witnessed the day's final as chief guest and distributed the prizes.

Walton operative director head of games and Sports FM IQbal Bin Anwar was present as special guest. Bangladesh Hadball Federation general secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor and among others were present on the occasion.

Addressing at prize distribution ceremony, Harunur Rashid said" "it's a good sign that like the other sports women are moving ahead in handball ......obey your coach's instruction and do hard work to get more good results.

He also hoped that these girls would able to present more quality game in future. Shahanaz Parvin the captain of the champions team said: " I really excited as my team emerged champions in the tournament...... it's a fruit of all hard work of the team."

Shahanaz, who represent for under-19 national handball team, said if they were provided a good coach, they would able to keep this place in the coming events.

She was later named the player of the match for her impressive performance in the final while Purnima of the champions team was given the player of the tournament award.

Besides, Fauzia of Jamalpur DSA was emerged the beat custodian of the tournament. Earlier, on way to the final Monday last, Jamalpur DSA edged past Gopalganj DSA by 23-22 goals in the keenly contested first semi-final while Naogaon DSA defeated Panchagarh DSA by 25-8 goals in the second semis.

A total of twelve teams, split into four groups, took part in the meet, sponsored by Walton and organized by Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF).
