Govt working to ensure welfare of people, lawmakers tell JS

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 13, 2018 (BSS) - Lawmakers today said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to ensure the welfare of the people.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed for the uplift of the people.

Taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President's address to the House, they commended the present government for taking forward the country towards continued development.

There is no alternative of Sheikh Hasina for development of the country, said treasury bench member Sheikh Selim.

Bitterly criticizing the role of BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia, Sheikh Selim said Khaleda Zia and his two sons have identified as terrorists by the Federal Court in Canada."The BNP and Jammat alliance government brought 10 trucks arms in the country for carrying out planned massive killing of the Awami League leaders and activists," he added.

Regarding the Rohingya crisis, he said the Rohingya crisis was created during the regime of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and she made the Myanmar citizens voter of Bangladesh.

The operation of the Pyra seaport and the Padma Bridge will increase the GDP around 4 per cent which would take the country to a middle income one, said treasury bench member Pankaj Devnath of Barisal-4.

Regarding the inauguration of Sheikh Hasina cantonment in Barisal, he said none of the past governments except Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina feel to open a cantonment in Barisal.

Referring the role of BNP, he said founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Ziaur Rahman launched the culture of injustice in the country while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has revived the rule of law in the country.

Appraising the health care service, opposition bench member Raushanara Mannan said the government has developed the health care services for the rural people through operating the community clinics across the country.

She urged the government not to extinct the women reserve seat in the parliament as the provision of the women reserve seat will automatically extinct after the current session of the parliament.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid a rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.

Treasury bench members Fahmi Golandaz Pavel, Zillul Hakim of Rajbari-2, Begum Fatematuz Zohra, Ashiqullah Rafiq of Cox's Bazar-2, Abdul Latif of Chittagong-11, Begum Roksana Yasmin Chuti, opposition bench member Salahuddin Ahmed Mufti, also spoke on the occasion.
