Various smart devices will be used in future agriculture: Experts

RAJSHAHI, May 28, 2023 (BSS)- Various smart devices, including sensor Internet of Things (IoT) network, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Smart Water, nanotechnology, synthetic biology, 3-D printer, self-controlled tractor, genetics and internet of things, in agriculture in future.

 The upcoming devices and technologies will contribute a lot towards building Smart Bangladesh through modernizing the agriculture, boosting farming outputs together with making the country self-reliant in agriculture.

 Agricultural extension officials and experts came up with the observation while addressing a daylong workshop titled "Fourth Industrial Revolution in Agriculture for building Smart Bangladesh" here on Saturday.

 The Innovation Team of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) organized the regional level workshop at Postal Academy auditorium largely attended by extension officials, scientists, researchers and other stakeholders.

DAE Director (Planning, Project Implementation and ICT) Rezaul Karim and Additional Director Shamsul Wadud addressed the workshop as chief and special guests respectively with Director (Finance and Administration) Joynal Abedeen in the chair.

 Muhammad Masum Billah, Deputy Secretary (Research) of the Ministry of Agriculture, gave an illustration on the aspects of promoting modern devises and technologies in agriculture during his keynote presentation.

In his remarks, Rezaul Karim said the fourth industrial revolution is using and promotion of artificial intelligence with robotic technology to expand agriculture to multidimensional fields.

 The venture as a whole will make the production technology easy through smart observation, he added.

 Apart from this, existing manual-based agriculture will be transformed into smart and machinery-dependent for boosting production as the government has been working in this field relentlessly.
 
The government, under the dynamic and prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has given importance to popularise agricultural machinery among farmers with a view to increasing crop production.

Shamsul Wadud said the government has launched Khamari mobile App that contributes a lot towards building smart Bangladesh as it is very much effective in terms of digitizing the data and findings related to farming.

 The App is time-fitting and need-oriented to the farmers and other beneficiaries. The farmers will get different kinds of information, including season-wise crops, land fertility, fertilizer recommendation, yield and seed through the App.

 Apart from this, they will gather knowledge about crop zoning, crop diversification, crop production and farming technology.

 As a whole, the App will bring a new horizon in the field of agriculture in future.
