JAMALPUR, April 17, 2024 (BSS) - Agriculture department has fixed target to bring extensive land under Aush cultivation to increase production during this Kharip-1 season in the district.
According to Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources, the target was fixed to cultivate Aush on 16200 hectares of land as the target to produce 43941 tonnes rice was set.
The cultivation target is over four times higher than last year, they said.
The office said last year farmers produced 10,013 tonnes Aush rice from 3782 hectares of land.
Farmers will cultivate high yielding variety on 14940 hectares of land with a production target of 40338 tonnes, highbred on 1200 hectares with a production target 3480 tonnes and local on 60 hectares with a production target of 96 tonnes.
According to Upazila wise break up of Aush paddy cultivation is as follows : 3290 hectares in Bakshiganj, 3190 hectares in Islampur, 2630 hectares in Melandah, 2610 hectares in Dewanganj Upazila, 1890 hectares in Jamalpur Sadar, 1360 hectares in Sarishabari and 1230 hectares in Madarganj.
Agriculture department also disbursed incentive among 3400 small and marginal farmers in all the seven Upazilas of the district for cultivation Aush paddy.
Additional Deputy Director, DAE, Muhammad Harun-Or-Rashid said with a view to increase Aush paddy production, each farmer got five kilogram Aush paddy seed, 10 kilogram DAP fertilizer and 10 kilogram MOP fertilizer free of cost for cultivation on one Bigha of land.
