JAMALPUR, April 23, 2024 (BSS)- Agriculture Department has fixed a target to produce 93 thousand tonnes of summer vegetables in the district this Kharip-1 season.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources to meet the production target farmers will cultivate vegetable on 5780 hectares of land.
The sources said last year farmers produced one lakh 737 tonnes vegetables from 5740 hectares of land.
Farmers already cultivated vegetable on 3800 hectares of land till today. They will continue cultivation till this month.
The office sources said 45052 tonnes vegetable will be produced on 2800 hectares of land in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila while 13596 tonnes on 845 hectares in Islampur, 9010 tonnes on 560 hectares in Bakshiganj, 7723 tonnes on 480 hectares in Dewanganj, 6034 tonnes on 375 hectares in Madarganj, 5953 tonnes on 370 hectares in Sarishabari and 5632 tonnes on 350 hectares in Melandah .
The office said farmers cultivate 23 types of vegetables in the district.
Some farmers have already started selling vegetables in local markets.
The vegetables are brinjal, bitter gourd, lady's finger, cucumber, papaya, red amaranth, arum, arum-lobe, jute celery etc.
