JAMALPUR, Nov 10, 2024 (BSS) - Farmers have started harvesting Transplanted Aman in the district this current season.
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said farmers have harvested T-Aman on 17,028 hectares of land till November 10, which is 15 percent of the crops.
Farmers cultivated T-Aman on 114,060 hectares of land with the production target of 353, 108 tonnes of rice, but the recent rainfall damaged crops on 3,574 hectares of land, the DAE sources said.
The office said farmers planted high yielding variety (HYV) on 74,365 hectares, High breed variety on 35,580 hectares and local variety on 3,574 hectares.
Farmer Mahbubur Rashid Mohabbad of village Vengura in Islampur Upazila said, "I got a good yield of BINA-7 variety of paddy from my five bighas of land."
He said per mound (40 kilograms) paddy is being sold in local market at Tk 1050 while dried paddy at Tk 1250.
He said, "After harvesting paddy I will bring the land under mustard and maize cultivation."
Deputy Director Zakia Sultana said farmers have started harvesting early variety of paddy and incentive on T-Aman cultivation was disbursed among the farmers in the district to increase food production.
