GAIBANDHA, Nov 15, 2024 (BSS) - Harvest of the early variety of T-Aman paddy has been going on in full swing at Gobindaganj upazila in the district since the first week of this month.
Sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension said T-Aman paddy was cultivated on 31,700 hectares of land in the upazila this year.
As the early variety of paddy has ripened in advance, the farmers are passing busy time cutting, threshing, and storing the food grain.
A number of farmers are selling the paddy at a higher price, while per maund (40 kg) of paddy is being sold at Tk 1500-1700 depending on its quality.
Farmer Abul Hossain said he will cultivate potatoes on his land after the harvesting of the paddy.
Ziaul Haque Rintu, sub-assistant agriculture officer of the upazila agriculture office, said farmers were motivated to cultivate BRRI Dhan 75, BRRI Dhan 87, and 103 varieties of paddy, finding those lucrative.
Upazila agriculture officer M. Mehedi Hasan said as the farmers are becoming economically benefited by farming early varieties of Aman paddy, initiative has been taken to expand the farming among the farmers of the upazila in the coming seasons.
