NAOGAON, Nov 30, 2024 (BSS) - A total of 70,100 hectares of land will be brought under mustard cultivation in 11 upazilas of the district in the current Rabi season.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), mustard is being cultivated on 4,380 hectares of land in Sadar upazila while on 7,240 hectares of land in Raninagar upazila, 6,765 hectares of land in Atrai upazila, 3,390 hectares of land in Badalgachhi upazila, 4, 250 hectares of land in Mohadevpur upazila, 6, 920 hectares in Patnitala upazila, 5,550 hectares in Dhamoirhat upazila, 6, 710 hectares in Sapahar upazila, 8,230 hectares in Porsha upazila, 8,215 hectares in Manda upazila and ,450 hectares in Niamatpur upazila of the district.
The mustard production target has been set at 1 lakh 17 thousand 67 tonnes.
To increase the interest of farmers in mustard cultivation, the amount of incentive support and the number of farmers have increased significantly in the district, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, agronomist Abul Kalam Azad said.
He also said, a total of 57,000 small and marginal farmers in the district have been already provided with 1 kg of seeds, 10 kg of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizer and 10 kg of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer free of cost against one bigha of land as government incentives.
