Farmers start Boro paddy harvesting in haors of Sylhet region

SYLHET, April 8, 2025 (BSS) - Farmers have started harvesting of Boro paddy from different haors of the Sylhet region.

According to the officials of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), farmers have already harvested ripe paddy from 521 hectares of land of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.

 Harvesting of Boro would start in full swing from April 15, said the DAE officials.
  
Additional Director of the DAE, Sylhet Region, Bimal Chandra Shom told the media that the weather of the region will remain favorable for harvesting of Boro till April 15 and the farmers expect a bumper production of the crop in the region due to favourable weather condition. 

According to the DAE, Boro cultivation target had been exceeded in the division as farmers cultivated Boro paddy in 4,97,219 hectares of land, up by 473 hectares from the actual target of 4,96,746 hectares of land.
 
The DAE earlier fixed target to cultivate Boro paddy in 2,75,813 hectares of land in the haor areas and 2,20,933 hectares of land in non-haor areas of the division this year. But, the farmers cultivated Boro in 2,76,803 hectares of land in the haor area and 2,20,416 hectares of land in the non-haor areas this year.

According to the district-wise statistics, Boro paddy was cultivated in the highest 2,23,502 hectares of land in Sunamganj district this year against the target of 2,23,410 hectares of land. The highest 1,23,847 hectares of land were brought under Boro cultivation in Habiganj districtagainst the DAE’s target of 1,23,736 hectares. The farmers of Sylhet district cultivated Boro in 87,730 hectares of land this year against the target of 87,500 hectares while the famers of Moulavi Bazar district cultivated Boro paddy in 62,235 hectares of land against the DAE’s target of 62,100 hectares of land.
