NETRAKONA, April 22, 2025(BSS) - More than 61 percent Boro paddy of the haor areas of the district has already been harvested by the farmers, officials of the department of agriculture said here today.
“The remaining 39 percent crops would be harvested within the next few days if there is no natural disaster that would disrupt the harvest,” the officials said.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Mohammad Nuruzzaman told BSS that the farmers have been harvesting their Boro crops spontaneously as there is no scarcity of combined harvester machines and labourers.
The farmers of the district has cultivated Boro paddy on 1,85,730 hectors of land across the district of which 41,070 hectors was in the haor areas, the DAE official said.
The DAE had fixed a target of producing 12,63, 490 metric tons of paddy across the district this year. However, the farmers are hoping to exceed the target.
The DAE sources said there are 134 haors of different sizes in the district. Of these, most of the haors are in Madon, Mohonganj and Khaliajhuri upazilas.
The DAE has already distributed 1014 combined harvesting machines at a subsidized price to the farmers. The farmers have been using a total of 736 harvesting machines and over 200 combined harvesting machines were brought to the haor areas for cutting crops.
When contacted, Khaliajhuri Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Delwar Hossain told BSS that we have been encouraging the farmers to harvest their crops quickly before the nor’wester and rain arrive.
