RAJSHAHI, April 29, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers urged their field-level subordinates to reach the ideas of crop zoning system to the grassroots farmers so that they can derive total benefits of the system.
Crop zoning system is to optimize land and water resource utilization for sustainable and efficient crop production and it involves identifying suitable areas for specific crops, considering factors like climate, soil, and water availability.
So, there is no way but to reach the aspects of the system to the farmers for its successful promotion.
Agricultural extension officials and experts came up with the observation while conducting technical sessions of a daylong workshop titled "Khamari Mobile App and Crop Zoning System" here today.
Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC) organized the training workshop for the district and upazila level officers of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) of Rajshahi Zone at the office conference hall of its Additional Director.
DAE Additional Director Dr Azizur Rahman and Regional Officer of Seed Certification Agency Dr Motaleb JHossain addressed the workshop as chief and special guests respectively with BARC Member Director Mosharraf Hossain Mollah in the chair.
BARC Soil Expert Sabir Hossain moderated the discussion.
During his keynote presentation, BARC Project Manager Abid Hossain Chowdhury gave an illustration on crop zoning system and its aspects.
By understanding the potential of different areas, farmers can make informed decisions about crop selection, leading to increased yields, reduced costs and improved overall agricultural efficiency.
He also attributed that the crop zoning facilitates better utilization of land and water resources that provide opportunities to harvest full potential of the crops if grown in areas specified as suitable.
As a whole, the maximum yield is achievable by following the crop zoning map.
During another multimedia presentation, BARC Director Hassan Hamidur Rahman talked about the importance of Khamari Mobile App saying the app is important for farmers and other beneficiaries because it provides crucial information and guidance on various aspects of crop production.
It helps farmers choose suitable crops for their land based on season and soil fertility, and provides recommendations for balanced fertilizer use and seed quantity.
Additionally, the app offers information on upazila-based suitable crop areas, crop layouts, and production technologies, empowering farmers to make informed decisions and improve their farming practices.
In his remarks, Dr Azizur Rahman said Khamari mobile App is helpful for the farmers as it's very much effective in terms of digitizing the data and findings related to farming.
"The Khamari App under the crop zoning project is time-fitting and need-oriented to the farmers and other beneficiaries," he added, asking his field-level colleagues to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for successful promotion of the App among the farmers.
