Bumper wheat production expected in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, Feb 2, 2022 (BSS) - The department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) is expecting to achieve a bumper wheat production as a total of 21500 hectares of land under its cultivation this season in the district.

A target has been fixed to produce 63, 000 metric tons of wheat this time, it said.

DAE sources said, Prodip variety of wheat was cultivated on 12,000 hectares of land, Bijoy on 4,000 hectares, Sotapdi on 2,500 hectares and Bari-150 variety on 1,500 hectares of land.

 Deputy Director of DAE Md. Mizanur Rahman told BSS that wheat cultivation has increased this year than the last year as its cultivation cost is lesser.

   Farmers said at least ten maunds of wheat can be harvested from one bigha of land.

Each maund of wheat is sold at minimum Taka 800.  

The DAE has supplied all necessary seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and other agriculture inputs a free of cost to the farmers to achieve the production target.

The department has also imparted training to the farmers to make them acquainted with the modern methods of wheat cultivation.
