RANGPUR, April 7, 2022 (BSS) - Officials of the Department of
Agricultural Extension (DAE) and farmers as well are expecting a bumper mango
production as formation of tender fruits continues smoothly now in Rangpur
agriculture region.

The DAE officials said the process of tender fruit formation is
progressing well in orchards amid favorable climatic conditions across the
region.

Meanwhile, farmers have engaged maximum efforts in nursing the growing
tender mango fruits in all five districts of Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram,

'Haribhanga', 'Mohanbhog', 'Lengra', 'Gourmoti', BARI-4, 'Chandramollika',
'Lakhna', 'Gopalbhog', 'Amrapali', 'Khirshapati' and other popular varieties
this season," Rahman said.

after selling the matured mangoes in May and June next," Halim added.

Orchard owners Amjad Hossain of Tekani and Abdur Rahim of Paikarerhat
villages in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur are hoping that excellent budding
followed by smooth formation of tender fruits would lead to a bumper mango
production.

the region.

Farmers have cultivated mangoes on around 8,000 hectares of land during
the current season in the region where around 90,000 tonnes of the fruit is
being produced annually worth Taka 350 on an average.

"Field level agriculture officials are assisting farmers to take proper
care of the growing tender mangoes and control pests' attacks, if any, during
this fruit formation period for better production," he added.

Talking to BSS, Senior Coordinator (Agriculture and Environment) of RDRS
Bangladesh Mamunur Rashid lauded the DAE officials for assisting farmers to
take proper care of growing tender mangoes.

"If the climatic conditions, fluctuation in temperatures, attack by pests
and insects remained within tolerable limits during the next few months,
formation of mango would be smooth to yield a bumper production," Rashid
hoped.
