NARAIL, July 12, 2022 (BSS) - Farmers are now passing busy times with rowing
Aush rice seedlings on their crop lands in three upazilas of the district.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials are rendering their
field-level services on the lands following health guidelines amid the Covid-
19 pandemic situation with a view to meet farmer's food demands as well as to
ensure food security of the country.
The DAE office sources said a target has been designed here to produce over
19,018 tonnes of Aush rice from 9,200 hectares of land in the district during
the current season.
According to the DAE production target, 8,723 tonnes of Aush rice will be
produced from 4,220 hectares of land in Sadar upazila, 3,742 tonnes from
1,810 hectares of land in Lohagara upazila and 6,553 tonnes from 3,170
hectares of land in Kalia upazila.
The government through the DAE and other agriculture-related organisations
and institutions is extending necessary assistance and latest technologies to
the farmers to make the Aush rice farming programme a success, the DAE
sources said.
Deputy Director of the DAE, Narail Dipok Kumar Roy said at the directives of
the government, different state-run agencies including Bangladesh Agriculture
Development Corporation (BADC) and Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation
(BCIC) have ensured proper supply of adequate quantity of improved quality
Aush seeds, fertilizers and agricultural equipment among the Aush growers.
The state-run banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank have also distributed
crop loans to the farmers for helping them to run their Aush cultivation
without financial problems, he said.
