JOYPURHAT, Nov 12, 2022 (BSS)- Sugarcane farmers of Joypurhat Sugar Mill, the country's largest sugar producing company, have set a target to take up sowing of sugarcane in 6000 acres of land during the current 2022-2023 season.
Sugar mill sources told BSS that the current season of sugarcane planting started from September 1.
To achieve the target, the officers and employees of the mill are going to the remote areas to exchange views with the farmers and are conducting motivational activities in sugarcane cultivation.
If the sugarcane planting target is achieved, 33000 tonnes of sugarcane will be produced and the percentage of sugar extraction is 6.4 percent.
The sugar production target has been set at 2,118 tonnes of sugar from the 6000 acres of land.
The government has also increased the price of sugarcane. At present, the price of sugarcane is fixed at Taka 4,450 per tonnes at mill gate and Taka 4,440 per tonnes for outside buying centres, said Akhlasur Rahman, Managing Director of Joypurhat Sugar Mill.
According to sugar mill sources, a loan facility of Taka 190,00,000 has been provided as government assistance to encourage farmers in sugarcane cultivation among 2700 farmers.
The sugarcane threshing will begin in the last week of December 2022, Akhlasur Rahman added.
