MANIKGANJ, Nov, 19, 2022 (BSS) - The cultivation of advanced onion is going on in full swing in all the seven upazilas of the district, expecting a good yield, officials sources said here today.

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials said, the farmers have started cultivation of onions as they are getting lucrative prices in the markets of their regular cultivated onion.

DAE had taken a massive programme to inspire the farmers to cultivate the advanced onion abundantly here during the current season as there is a great demand of this spicy crop in the markets.

The DAE had set a target of advanced onion cultivation on 2770 hectares of land this season in all three upazilas of the district-Harirampur, Shibalaya and Ghior as most of the onions are cultivated in those three upazilas of the district.

Abu Mohammad Enayet Ullah, Deputy Director of the DAE, said the cultivation of advanced onion was late this year due to heavy rainfall in the last month as tornado hit all over the district, adding that though the farmers have started to cultivate the onion late but more than 60 percent cultivation of land has already been completed.

The sources said after harvesting the onion, the farmers of the areas will cultivate mustard and then will plant onion again on the same land. The farmers of the areas used to cultivate the advanced onion as an extra crop.
