NARSINGDI, Dec 12, (BSS)-The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken a massive programme for boosting the cultivation of Boro paddy in the six upazilas of the district this season.
Official sources said the department has fixed 55,430 hectares of land for cultivating Boro Paddy in the district this season.
Of the total land, 54,300 hectares will be cultivated under high yielding variety (HYV) of paddy and 1,011 hectares under local variety.
Mohemmad Mahabubur Rashid, deputy director of DAE, told BSS that farmers of the district are now busy preparing seed beds and also preparing their lands for transplanting the seedlings in a short days. He said there is no shortage of Boro seedling in the district.
Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC)) so far distributed 1,230 tonnes Boro seeds among the farmers. He said Boro cultivation would be continued till the second week, of February.
The Deputy Director said if there is no weather hazards about 2,34,750 tonnes of Boro rice are expected to be produced this season.
He said the local DAE provided the farmers with logistic support including seeds , fertilizers and necessary equipments.
Beside Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank and BRDB are distributing short term crop loan to the farmers.
