DHAKA, Jan 01, 2025 (BSS) - Expatriate Bangladeshis sent home a record US$2.64 billion as remittances in December, which was around 32 per cent higher than the corresponding month of the previous year.
The wage earners sent around $2 billion remittance to the country in December, 2023.
With the latest addition, the year-on-year growth in receiving remittances stood at 27.56 per cent for the first six months, July to December, of the ongoing fiscal year (FY25) as the country received $13.78 billion in total during the period.
Last year, it was $10.80 billion.
Talking to BSS, a senior official of the central bank mentioned that the flow of remittances into the country shows upward trend as the government has taken measures to streamline the legal channel for encouraging non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to send money to the country.
