DHAKA, Aug 25,2021 (BSS) – Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh said the government is committed to ensure supply of essential commodities, including rice, edible oil, sugar, onion, ginger, garlic and spices to people at reasonable prices.
"Necessary steps have been taken to ensure reasonable prices of these products in line with the international market prices and to keep the prices of imported goods at reasonable level," he said while addressing a press conference after attending a review meeting of essencial commodities at the secretariat office here today.
The commerce secretary said the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has intensified market monitoring and operations across the country. He sought the cooperation of traders to keep the price of goods stable.
He said, adding steps have been taken to ensure that there is no shortage of supply of essestial commodities in the market. "Stern actions would be taken against the traders who will be found involved in creating artificial crisis of key essential items in the market."
Commerce Secretary said that the sale of TCB products at affordable prices has been increased two-and-a-half times to meet the demand of marginalized people.
Monitoring will be intensified to ensure that imported goods are sold in the domestic market in line with the international market, he added.
Among others, chairperson of the Bangladesh Competition Commission Mofizul Islam, Director General of DNCRP Bablu Kumar Saha, Additional Secretary (Export) of Commerce Ministry HafizurRahman, Additional Secretary (IIT) AHM Safiquzzaman and FBCCI Senior Vice President Mostafa Azad Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
