Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2023 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 10.05 points or 0.16 percent to 6,256.80. Two other indices also ended lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 5.65 points to finish at 2,101.47 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 1.81 points to close at 1,362.85.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased to Taka 6,246.78 million, which was Taka 4,811.39 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 352 issues traded, 131 declined, 43 advanced and 178 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

RECKITTBEN topped the turnover chart, followed by Marico, UNILEVERCL, BERGERPBL and EASTRNLUB.

ETL was the day's top gainer, posting 10 percent gain while ISNLTD was the worst loser, losing 8.03 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 8.40 points to settle at 18,574.83 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 5.18 points to close at 11,107.48.
Of the issues traded, 59 declined, 41 advanced and 92 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.
