DHAKA, Dec 23, 2023 (BSS)-The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) today urged the government to focus on structural issues for better economic performance.
“The government will have to focus on structural issues since better economic performance will critically hinge on the efficiency of some of the important institutions including the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the Bangladesh Bank,” said CPD Executive Director Dr Fahmida Khatun.
The CPD ED said this while speaking at a media briefing to share its observation on the state of Bangladesh's economy in the fiscal year of 2023-24 at its office here in the city.

“Lack of accountability has led to overpriced and wasteful public expenditure,” she added.
She laid emphasis on establishing good governance by taking reform measures.
CPD Distinguished Fellow Professor Mustafizur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
Mustafizur Rahman emphasised on the importance of tax collection in ensuring fairness in distribution.
Instead of taking loans to build new large-scale infrastructures, he suggested focusing on advancing current projects and profitably managing the existing infrastructures.
