RAJSHAHI, Jan 15, 2024 (BSS)- A total of 50 women entrepreneurs were given
business grants worth Taka 10,000 each for boosting their level of confidence
through expanding their business.
On behalf of the Livelihoods Improvement of Urban Poor Communities (LIUPC)
project, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) provided the financial support.
The RCC organised the grants distribution ceremony at its conference hall
urging the recipients to promote their business after the best uses of the
grants money.
Chief Engineer Nur Islam accompanied by Chief Community Development Officer
Azizur Rahman and UNDP Project Associate Mahbubul Alam distributed the bank
cheques.
The city corporation has been implementing the LIUPC project in cooperation
with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in order to achieve
long-term sustainable growth by eradicating urban poverty and achieving
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Engineer Nur Islam said diversified steps
were adopted to improve living and livelihood conditions of the disadvantaged
and underprivileged population in the city.
After taking advantage of the time-fitting and need-based measures, many of
the marginalised people have already become self-reliant social contributors.
Many slum people have started living in brick-built houses leaving their
thatched or mud-house in the city.
The project has been designed to reach initially the un-served and
underserved urban population in the city and to promote livelihoods and
living conditions of 1.80 lakh poor people living in urban areas.
Engineer Nur Islam focused on stronger collaboration between the government
and non-government organisations, and involving public representatives and
other relevant stakeholders to promote plans for people living in urban poor
areas.
