Two more RMG factories get LEED certification

DHAKA, Feb 24, 2024 (BSS) - Two more RMG factories in the country have obtained United States Green Building Council's (USGBC) LEED certification (certificate for green factories).

According to the BGMEA, these two factories are: COMFIT, ECO VILLE, located in Gorai, Mirzapur, Tangail, achieved Platinum certification with a score of 85 points and Fakir Eco Knitwears Ltd., situated in Kayempur, Narayanganj, achieved Platinum certification with a score of 85 points.

With these new additions, Bangladesh now boasts a total of 209 LEED Green Factories.

Among these, the number of Platinum reached 79, while 116 earned Gold status in the country. Besides, there are 10 silver factories and 4 certified factories.

BGMEA president Faruque Hassan in a statement said the growing number of LEED Green Factories in Bangladesh is a testament to the industry's unwavering commitment to sustainability.

"Our members have consistently shown exceptional leadership in adopting eco-friendly practices, from energy-efficient operations to water conservation initiatives," he added.

The BGMEA president said this dedication to environmental responsibility is not only commendable but also essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability of the industry.

"Our remarkable commitment to sustainability has placed Bangladesh prominently on the global map of environmentally conscious manufacturing," he added.
 
The country is now home to 54 of the Top 100 highest-rated LEED Green Factories in the world. Not only that, 9 out of top 10, and 18 out of top 20 highest rated LEED Green Factories are in Bangladesh.

Among these, one stands out as the highest-rated LEED Green Factory globally.

"This continued momentum in environment friendly industrialization proves our commitment toward sustainable manufacturing practices," added the BGMEA president.

Faruque said the global community is taking notice of Bangladesh's green factory initiatives, and already buyers are also coming forward and investing in green energy infrastructure in Bangladesh, which is quite unique.

"A critical foundation is being built in our industry at this moment, and I am sure our economy will continue to reap the benefit of the efforts made by the entrepreneurs in the RMG industry" he added.
